You are true that the Freedmen were indeed part of the nations. The present situation is quite different as most of the nations quietly removed the Freedmen from citiznenship, following the Jim Crow sentiments of their new state of Oklahoma, and by the 1970's 80's and 90's only the Seminoles still officially recognized their African citizens as members. Of course much of the Seminole status has also been affected by the recent vote to require CDIB cards for citizenship.
