"If black freedmen have Cherokee blood, then that's acceptable for citizenship," he said. "But a vote of the people....It's the American way.
This statement is unfair to the descendants because they were prevented from voting and they were already citizens of the Cherokee nation. The American way was not for them.
I still don't understand how the Supreme court's decision can be changed just because Chad Smith wants to amend the tribe's constitution. If he had that right from THE START, why was there a hearing in the first place knowing that the decision could be reversed because of the vote of the people (the American way)?
