Indian Decendent/north/east Texas

This is one of the most interesting sites I've found to date.

I have Indian blood on both sides of my family..but the tribes are unknown for sure.

My aunt on my fathers' side used to say it was Kickapoo. They were from Virginia..last name MEBANE. Charles, Mattie. William.

My mothers side (DORIS HENDERSON) has pure blood Indian beginning with her Grandfather on her mothers side (my great). Her last name was Henderson..and she grew up around Tyler Texas in a place called CENTERPOINT.She tells story of the INJUN grandfather..saying he never wanted to work and would "borrow" corn from fields and other things concerning his Indian behavior.

I look and think totally different from most and couldn't understand it.then..when I started attending some Powwows back a few years ago and heard the drumming and saw the dancing I felt something I had never felt before. My skin has a red tinge to it...my eyes and face look differently and I began to see others at Pow Wows that looked more like me....and now when I see or hear Indians especially from the Texas or Plains area It connects to my heart. A spirit reader once told me he saw me from somewhere in the plains and into Canada which could be Blackfeet or others. My family on my mothers side is all throughout Texas, Colorodo and into California now...some relatives have told me they see other relatives that look like me in the west.Tall. redboned. strong.I however live in the East..and grew up here.

I see many people trying to connect to thier roots here !! And if anyone can connect to my story I'd love to hear about it...and ... make that feeling of the wind..the Prairie ..nature .. freedom and the beat of Indian Drums..though I'm part African American not African Drums but the mono-tone of the deep Indian Drumming come together to heal my missing memories.

I've been inquiring about DNA testing but the company I contacted can only tell if I have Indian Blood...not the Tribe.they say that that too will come soon..I need to know the Tribe. I know I have the blood.Perhaps I'll find out before I die.It may very well be my dying wish.

If anyone has any information on Indians inthe Tyler Texas Area or, DNA testing that can help identify tribes or just want to make contact..I'd be happy to hear ...anything !!!
