In Response To: Choctaw-Chickasaw Meeting in Tatums OK ()
What is the difference between a Black freedmen and a Black Indian?
There were two separate rolls, one for freedmen and one for Indians and in order to be a freedmen meant a slave that was freed (mother's status a slave).
A Black Indian would have to be a mixed blood whose mother was an Indian.
The issue for freedmen is all about the 1866 Treaty, not about Indian blood.
