Re: Freedmen of the Five Tribes Live Broadcast Ton
In Response To: Freedmen of the Five Tribes Live Broadcast Tonight ()
I would like to hear from Creek freedmen researchers talk on panels, not enough discussion. Also in regards to the Dawes rolls, no one speaks about the fact that the mother determined which roll a family was placed on.
On these panels, I get the feeling that true facts about why one's family was not enrolled or which roll they were placed on is not being told.
I do agree that the first step in finding a relative in the FCT is to look for them on the Dawes rolls. Those families on the Dawes rolls were citizens and got land, whether they were on the freedmen or by blood roll.
Also the FCT do not except DNA results because it does not indicate a tribe affiliation. The tribes have their own records of family members.
