Good work and a great story!!!!
I recently experienced a similar situation and it had a happy, fruitful ending.
On 27 April 2017 I was inducted as a charter member of the Ohio Genealogy Society lineage group "The Society of Families of the Old Northwest Territory" (SFONT) having proved thru documentation AND DNA direct descendancy from ancestors who were in the area designated the Northwest Territory (Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan) before the 1787 Northwest Ordinance.
These ancestors (Betty, Hannah & Candis/Kandis) were listed as "slaves" owned by the family of Rene & Agnes (Moseby) LaForce captured in the British & Shawnee Indian raid of Ruddell's Fort & Martin's Station. KY in June of 1780. Rachel was born(1781) in Chief Blue Jacket's Town near Bellefontaine in what became the Ohio Territory in 1787.
Subsequent DNA testing has proven I have matches to LaForce descendants at the 5th cousin level. So, those who were listed as slaves also had a familial relationship to the LaForce family.
Rachel LaForce was later taken to Canada by Col. Alexander McKee and had a daughter, Susannah (1795), with a Shawnee Indian named Flying Cloud aka Thomas Reed.
Nicka, thank you again, your story allows me to tell my story. We must ALL tell our stories.
