Re: It's Time for Some Walls To Crumble

I received an email.

An article appeared in the OHS Journal, "Chronicles of Oklahoma". The article was about an incident in the Choctaw Nation in the 1880s. One of my ancestors---a great great uncle was mentioned. The author was a descendant of one of the people mentioned and she had reached out to me having known I was part of the Perry clan from eastern Oklahoma. She wrote a small paragraph pointing out that descendants of the parties in the article were still around, and she mentioned my name.

Well--the article had mentioned the name of the former slave holder, and it also mentioned my name as a descendant and that I am a researcher. The Perry descendant subscribes to the OHS Journal and he saw my name as a descendant of one of the slaves held by his ancestors, and he wrote to me. In fact I have a copy of the email that he sent on my blog. (Wow---just checked--that was seven years ago!)

I replied and we ended up meeting each other a few months later when I was in Arkansas. He and his cousin both came and we had a very good visit and we have been in touch ever since. We communicate and still share info as we find it with each other.

You can see the email, and the article that I wrote at the link below. (The email is the third image on that blog post.)
