I have started the research of my family ancestry and have run into a bit of a roadblock. I have not been able to find the origin of the Abram last name for my family. I am using a research tool - Fold3 - and have reviewed many related Dawes enrollment cards/packets. I have been able to find my great-grandmother, Margaret Abram. Her parents are listed as Philip and Becky (Rebecca) Abram. Their slave owners are listed, but I would like to know where the last name came from. My great-grandmother was first married to Charley Abram and then to Henry Gaines. She had 4 children by Charley but I do not find anything information on him. If anyone has any information, I would truly appreciate it. This is really turning into a rewarding project for me and my children. My mother and her brothers left a few notes here and there, but a lesson learned, should have listened more to the stories they told.
