Hello Mr. Johnson,
The interview of Mary Darneal is where I got some of my information, along with the help of Angela Walton-Raji and Tonia Holleman.
James Darneal was one half Choctaw. His father, Anselon Darneal, my mother’s great great grand father was a full blood Choctaw.
Based upon testimony, James Darneal was having some problems because of the many executions he implemented. He was chosen to shoot the final shot by a lot of the condemned prisoners because he was a deadly shot and they knew there wouldn’t be any suffering. He had built that reputation.
Thanks for the interest because this history is very intriguing to me.
