Congratulations! What a find.

I was told that my 2g grandfather, Henry Carter, served in the civil war. I sent off for his pension file but unfortunately, there are several Henry Carters who served in the civil war under USCT and I received the information on the wrong Henry Carter. I haven't given up.

So, if anyone out there is related to a Henry Carter (m. Annie) who was born in Autauga County, Alabama and..through slavery..ended up in Baton Rouge, La, let me know. I have some valuable information!
