James Wardlaw PERRIN of Abbeville, SC, entered this information on March 10, 1860, in his handwritten plantation records:
"In the beginning of the year '59 I received the following Negros (sic) from Dr. Livingston Viz. CAESAR + wife MIRANDA, with their children BILLY, LUCINDA, WINNEY, IBSON, NANCY, FLORA + LEWIS. These Negros were valued at FIFTY four Hundred Dollars being 600 Dollars apiece.
"About the 1st of 1859 I received from my Father Thos. C. Perrin the following Negros Viz. SAM, FORTUNE+ DOCK. I received ALLEN when I was married (May 1858). These Negros were valued as follows: Sam at $1200 -- the price paid for him at (Boyos?) sale. Fortune, bought for me at $1100, Dock bought from Dunlap for me at $1,000 + Allen $1,000."
