The FLETCHER owners are:
On the Census records, don't forget to look closely to see where that possible slave owner was born and where the slave in question was born.
Sometimes they were both from another state.
I was suggesting to Tonya to look closely at the birth places for her relatives, maybe that would provide some clues.
In your situation, there are many A-American FLETCHER family members in the Rappahannock area of VA.
I haven't checked in other counties, but there are at least eight families that have a THORNTON as a given name in that area.
You mentioned,"Armstead Fletcher, born in VA around 1839. He had a son named Thronton in 1886 in Limestone County Alabama, to where quite a few Fletcher planters relocated from VA."
Have you checked the 1870 census in Rappahannock for Armstead? I did a seach at Ancestry and didn't find him there.
I'll save the name and let you know , do you have any idea what part of VA his family and all the planters could have called HOME?
