Under Virginia Law, all persons who had cohabited with each other prior to 1865 were required to register at the closest courthouse. I checked the listing I have for those who registered at the Nelson County Courthouse, and found the following:

Cynas Barrett - Molly Coleman, cohabited March, ? 1852, (county not clear, try Amherst County, VA Owner: Obadliah J. Martin

Frederick Loving - Jane Coleman, cohabited July, 1855, in North Carolina Owner: W. N. Goodwin
Barttler Walker - Anna Loving, cohabited ? 1859 in Nelson County, at Rosaline??? (unreadable)
Shepherd Penn - Esther Coleman, cohabited 26 February, 1849, Amherst County, Va. Owner: Mayo Cabell

Massie Mills, Nelson County, VA is one of the counties of research for me. The Cabell Family were a major landowner who owned lots of slaves. Also, there are several slaves with the surname of Loving.
