Re: Queen family, Anne Arundel, MD
In Response To: James Mack Queen 1895 MD ()

Check with living relatives. Try to get any oral 'family history'. Do you know when Stephen died and where he is buried? What about Hannah? She evidently died sometime between 1920 and 1930. Check for a death record that MAY name the parents.

There are free Queen families documented in MD back to the late 1700's. The census contains Queen families back to 1790. Paul Heinegg has documented a couple of them on his online site. [He is also one of the forum leaders for the 'Free People of Color' site here at Afrigeneas.]

Attempt to trace them back using Census and vital records, starting with James M. If you can link them to the Queens that were 'free' in Prince George or Anne Arundel counties (before 1860), then your work becomes a little easier.

I do not know much about Maryland research, but the state archives has a great online collection. Also check out the rootsweb site for Anne Arundel and other counties in MD.

There are some very knowledgeable Maryland researchers here. Perhaps they will chime in with their expertise.
