I think this was a female and the "m" for male was probably a transcription error. I should have mentioned that in my first post. Either way an enumeration error was made. He was either a male and they accidentally recorded the number of children or he was a she and the "m" was an accident. They only recorded the number of children you had if you were a woman. No other man on that census page had the number of children he had recorded. I believe they started recording these numbers because they were interested in learning about infant mortality rates.
