Suggest you start with the county in GA where the family is located in 1870 and 1880 - Hancock county.

Then take a look at 1860 slave schedules to see if there is a slaveowner named Reed or Reid - which there is:

This is usually the best starting place.

Investigate this white family. Since all of the children are born in GA - you can begin to estimate at what point Randall was in GA - though listed as born VA in 1870.
