Re: Tracing PRICE-STEPHENS Family
In Response To: Tracing PRICE-STEPHENS Family ()
With regard to your grandmother's maiden name, my first thought would be to try to locate her death record, if you know when/where she died, and if that state was even registering deaths at the time. If not, then my next thought would be to try to locate a record of your father's, created while he was alive, that might mention the maiden name of his mother ... marriage record, Social Security application, military record, etc. If that fails, then I'd look for your father's death certificate in hopes that it might provide Angeline's maiden name. Death records are far less reliable sources, generally, than many other types of records, but if it's all you have, run with it.
It's possible that there might also be a marriage record or church record of Angeline's and Adam's marriage, but that far back (1870), it's unlikely, unless they were Catholic or perhaps Episcopal.
I'm sure our other AfriGeneas buddies can offer some additional sources to check. At any rate, we wish you well in your search and hope that we can offer assistance if you need it in the future.
