Re: My Father's Adoptive Parents?
In Response To: My Father's Adoptive Parents? ()
My first thought would be to find out if your father's ORIGINAL birth certificate is available to him. I know that laws regarding the release of information to adoptees varies widely from state to state. If it's possible for him to receive the birth certificate that was generated in the first place, there may be enough information on that to get started in your search. However, please realize that many birth certificates of adopted children are modified to remove much of the original information.
The next thing I'd want to caution you on is jumping to too many conclusions. We ALLLLLL suffer from this one, trust me. In our quest to make that family connection, it's easy to want that connection to be there so badly that you wind up claiming the wrong family as your own.
I applaud you for trying to get to the truth of the matter and I'm sure that the whole AfriGeneas community will be willing to help you. Try checking on the birth certificate information and let us know if we can provide any additional insight once it's received. There's a link at the bottom of this posting which may be of help.
All the best in your search.
