I am trying to track the roots of my people. I have very limited knowledge of my ancestors, my father passed 15 years ago. His siblings are old and their memories aren't what they once were. I can not recall all the information passed on to me from my father from several years ago. Can you please instruct me as to the best way to begin a search for my slave ancestors. The only information I have is that they originally are believed to have landed in South Carolina, possibly from somewhere in the Caribbean. Later my ancestors were relocated to Louisiana. My Grandfathers name was (is) Peter Harding. It might help to know that he had a street named after him in Norco, La. (East Harding St.) That is pretty much all I know of my people. I have a strong desire to link with my ancestors, so any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated.
