You're correct. There is a long discussion of this surname in the FPOC forum that extends for several years. One of the individuals mentions Larto and Dewitt but the focus appears to be a FPOC Euphemie who lived in St. Landry parish and may be an ancestor of Latro but I couldn't find the connection but it probably takes a little more digging than I did. Go to the forum and search for Larto or Lamelle.
