Another method, if there is a town newspaper or community paper PAY for an advertisement giving pertinent information about looking for relatives. Someone in town is going to read it and pass on the information. Just maybe family will feel proud enough to respond. I went so far as to write everyone in the local phone book. I made a family letter with pictures of living deceased members as the header. I feel pictures tell a thousand words. I also included a family chart and census copies to prove what I was doing. This letter helped me to locate 2 family groups. I personally feel to get a phone call from someone I don't know, does not prove you are family. It could be someone trying to steal identities. I included my phone number to give them the choice to call back. My pictures on the family letter were pictures only family would have in their posession.
