I am trying to locate the burial places of two of my ancestors who were in Clarendon Co, SC, John Thames Sr (who died abt 1826), and John Thames Jr (who died abt 1818). There are a John Thames Sr and John Thames Jr listed among the burials of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Clarendon Co, SC. Bethlehem is, I believe, a black church, but I don't ever recall seeing any African-Americans using the "Sr" or "Jr" designations. Were "Sr" and "Jr" ever used among African-Americans and/or slaves?
