King MItchell in 1870>
In Response To: death certificates ()

Hi Amanda,

I found your ggrandfather King Mitchell in the 1870 census of Houston County as a 14 year old. His father's first name is very unclear. It could be Hyde, Clyde or Dyde. Ancestry.com as it listed as Dyde. King's mother name is listed in 1870 by the first initial only and that initial is D.

1870 Houston County Tx

Mitchell, Dyde/Clyde/Hyde age 30 North Carolina
Mitchell, D age 41 born Georgia
Mitchell, King age 14 born Georgia
Mitchell, L age 9 born Ga
Mitchell, Geo age 15 born Ga
Mitchell, M age 8 born Tx
Mitchell, Mary age 7 born Tx
Mitchell, Jo age 5 born Tx
Mitchell, Andrew 3 born Tx
Mithcell, L age 2 born Tx

Now in 1880, I found King with his wife Olley living next to his mother. In 1870, his mother was listed with the initial D. But in 1880, her name is listed as Dowzy. Dowzy is not listed with her husband.

1880 Houston County Tx

Mitchell, King age 22 born Ga Father born NC mother born NC
Olley, wife age 18 born Tx father born Va mother born Va

Mitchell, Dowzy/Douzy age 49 born NC father born NC mother born Nc
Margaret, Dau age 16 born tx
Joseph, son age 14 born Tx
Andrew, son age 12 born Tx
Daniel, son age 8 born Tx
Garland, Lucinda age 80 born Va father born Va Mother. It states that her relationionship to Dowzy is "Wand" or something like that. I dont know what that means.

hopes that helps,

Tony
