Re: 8 Reasons for not finding
In Response To: 8 Reasons for not finding ()
I think this is right on point. I would look at one place until I developed myopia. I didn't look five pages before or after. I didn't look in the next county nor the next state. I didn't understand that Goins was going to be spelled JONES, GONES, GONCE nor GIVENS. My family moved from Virginia to Ohio to Michigan to Pennsylvania to Ohio to New York to West Virginia, back to Ohio and any number of counties in those states.
For example one ancestor was born in Zanesville, Ohio, moved Belmont County, Ohio and then to Kalamazoo Michigan (with his parents), then he was married in Washington county, Ohio. I found him with his brother (who I could not find after I first saw him in the 1850 Census) in Jefferson County, Ohio. This ancestor also lived in Canton, Stark County, Ohio before returning to Kalamazoo, Michigan where he is buried. That is one of out of eleven in this family. The one thing I depended on was mention of him being a barber in 75% of his moves.
