Re: marriage record
In Response To: marriage record ()
Per the 1930 Census, Joseph was 'son-in-law' and Louise was 'daughter' of Victoria Duchan (46). Another daughter, Belle, is also listed in the household.
Also, a Joseph LEWIS is indexed in the SSDI. He died in Nov 1975 in Galveston County, TX. Do you have his death cert? His obit?
There is a recent obit for a Clifford Duchan (d. LA) on rootsweb that might provide some insight. The obit names his parents (Robert and Victoria K. Duchan). Two of his siblings were Bella and Louisia. In another obit, he is listed as the 'brother' of another man. The relationships are not obvious in this second obit but I think you should take a look.
This may all be a coincidence, but looks like it is well worth investigating! You might also try looking at DUCHAINE / DUCHAIN, or DUCHENE in Southwest Louisiana and Orleans Parish.
The Family History Library, has microfilmed the Galveston County marriage index from 1838-1935. Check out Familysearch.org for microfilm numbers and FHL locations. Lastly, there are a number of volunteer sites that provide 'lookup' help for public records such as marriages and obituaries. Try RAOGK.com.
