A couple favorite examples of City Directory documentation of my personal family history and genealogy are shown below.

The examples are from the 1861 Sacramento, CA city directories that reflect not only the name, but the workplace, race, occupation and residence. These pages, along with other materials helped to prove the oral history of William Adams, a 2nd great-grandfather, making the trek from Urbana, Ohio to California during the late 1850's, early 1860's.

The first photo page also shows the abbreviations used in this particular edition of a city directory.
