My great grandparents, Robert Robinson b. 1837 and Nancy Croxton b. 1851 appear on the 1870 Census with their children, Peggy, Bettie, Winnie, John R. (my grandfather), Lucy Ann and a young boy named George Roper(?). The family lived in Pauls Cross Roads, Rappahanock District.
My grandparents, John R. Robinson b. 1868 and Delphy (also spelled Delpha) Carter Smith b. 1871 married in 1892 per marriage certificate. Grandmother Delphy's parents were Horace Smith and Bettie Hutchinson. My grandparents had seven children born 1894 through 1912. They are all deceased. Their names were, Robert, Lucy A., Ollie, John, Rebecca (my mother), Philip and Joseph. They all Left Essex and settled in Baltimore and Philadelphia.
My mother was still there in 1923 per a letter (postmarked Pauls Cross Roads) to her sister. A 1924 letter written on Howard University letterhead to my aunt Lucy from her cousin James E. Jones talks about growing up together and mentions "old man Lewis Corbin" and Mae Ethel. My aunt Lucy said we were related to the Corbins. Census years 1880 through 1920 show my g-grandfather and grandfather residing in Rappahanock District.
