Re: Family History Where Do We Start?

Before I can accept such praise, I must confess that I surfed onto your web site. I have visited it several times but today I was blown away by the magnitude of your research. Your family lines are huge and fascinating. I would love to find out about Grandfather McKinley who fought at Muse-Argonne. (I have some photos that I could scan and send to you). In the past few years, the French government has awarded the Croix de Guerre to all living veterans who fought under the French flag in WW I. I imagine that McKinley was one of them. I am active with the Ancienne Combattants Francais and would ask them if the Croix de Guerre could be awarded posthumously. His regiment may have received it from the legendary General Gouraud in 1918. Have you seen the film, "Men of Bronze"? Fascinating! What a wonderful way to introduce the 20th century or WW I. Bonne chance!
Back to your question:
Definitely use historical periods. Your family's history begins in the 1700's around the time of the "birth of America"..a great place to start.
Intercutting your text with photos, illustrations and other documents is an excellent idea. Perhaps highlighting an accomplished ancestor from each line of the family might also help.
If anyone else has an idea, then please...let's hear it.
