Mary Seacole: Jamaica to Crimean War
![]() Greetings AfriGeneas Writers Forum: Thanks to Thames Valley University (UK) for its fascinating presentation of Mary Seacole. For those of you researching Jamaican ancestry, you’ll be more than pleased to read about her life and her writings. Her service in the Crimean War will pique the interest of military historians too. I bookmarked the Mary Seacole website several months ago when I posted my research on the Cooking Forum on Jim Hercules and Blacks in Russia. Since the UK is celebrating Black History this month, I’m delighted to share her story with you. Please click on the link below to experience the life of Mary Seacole: http://www.maryseacole.com/maryseacole/pages/mary_race.html The University of Pennsylvania offers her autobiography published in 1857. Yes, her writing may seem antiquated, however writers should read the words from all generations to fine tune their work. Mary Seacole's spirit and experience as a determined black woman is a compelling read. Please click on the main link below to read: “Wonderful Adventures of Mrs. Seacole in Many Lands” Enjoy!
