Read-In Celebrates Works of African-American Writers
January 11, 2008
Eastern Kentucky University will kick off its observance of Black History Month with a read-in celebrating the works of African-American writers and lectures examining diversity and African-American art.
The African-American Read-in, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 4, in the Grand Reading Room of the Crabbe Library, is co-sponsored by EKU Libraries, the University’s African/African-American Studies Program and the Office of Academic Integrity, and the EKU Foundation.
The event will feature a guest presentation by poet Bianca Spriggs-Floyd, which will be followed by public readings.
Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to read 3- to 5-minute excerpts from their favorite work by an African-American writer.
Selected works can include poetry, adult literature, children’s books and more. Participants will be able to arrive and leave as their schedules permit.
