Robyn Smith posted this message to the AfriGeneas Mailing list. What beautiful memories flowed from some of the "writers" on the list; Some of those will be reposted here.
Afrigeneas family,
Has anyone gotten the above book/CD set? It is simply wonderful. I got it for Christmas. As a 30-something who did not experience any of this,
it moves me to feel saddened, educated, proud, enraged...among other emotions. It is a companion volume to the "Remembering Slavery" book/CD.
It reminded me of my grandmother, born 1921 in rural Tennessee. She has since passed away, but I wish I had asked her more about those kinds of
experiences. She got out of the south just as soon as she could.
Our oral history is so very important. A wonderful book, I just wanted to tell everyone here about it. One woman in the book recounts how in
her town, they never sold COKE to blacks, only PEPSI. Now that blew my mind.
