What was the Freeway that camr through thr community? and what are the boundaries of the community of your concern? Is Crenshaw in the middle of that?

It may be that the Sentinel did not exploit the situation to an extent to provide you a rich enough background from which to begin your novel. The Los Angeles Timrs may be more "with it". Who was the mayor during the time? Who were the "movers and shakers" during the period of your concern.

When you pinpoint the location and the time period I would suggest you get copies of the Redevelopment Agencies Plan. There you will find details of the DETAILS of all actions posed and all actions taken including the removal of people and buildings from the first drop of ik until the last drop dried. Those are public documents and should be readily available but not free of the cost of copying.

Perhaps you can set a schedule to interview the "community members" eho comprised the Redevelopment Agency once you determine who they were. A key player for you may be Danny Bakewell. Then there is Yvonne Braithwaite Burke and old Gus ???...among others.
