Hello World Researchers
I've found an interesting exhibition at the Imperial War Museum's website. "Together" tells the story of the men and women of color who contributed to the WW II effort. Sometimes we forget that a Black Britains existed long before African-Americans arrived on their way to the beaches of Normandy. The Imperial Museum didn't.
Its fascinating war chronicle includes Britains Jamaicans, Canadians, India, Sri Lanka, many islands in the Caribbean, East & West Africa and South East Asia. Their stories are presented through photos, journals, and audio.
You will love the photos of RAF bomber pilot Robert Ngbaronye of Nigeria, the women of the Trinidad Base Command, Port of Spain...can you pick out the three who are sisters? My favorite is of King George VI with a group of merchant seamen at the Liverpool Docks.
Have fun and enjoy the Imperial Museum's "Together".
