Underground Railroad Research Forum

Colrain, Ohio 'stations

I am looking for information concerning Underground Railroad activities in the Colerain, Ohio area.

I am currently visiting my 92 year old mother. Today she told me that the house she was born in there was supposed to have been a place where fleeing slaves stopped and were hidden in the basement.

My mother’s great-grandfather, John Starbuck, married to Sara Jane Bundy (daughter of Benjamin and Delitha Bundy), purchased the house from John T. Bracken in 1875.

I have just learned of this connection, and have done little research, but have discovered that a Bundy house in Colerain is listed as a place used for hiding fleeing slaves.

Any assistance would be much appreciated: confirmation of the information, suggestions of further places to research – even clarification that this is simply one of those ‘family fables’ that get handed along.
