Although I support the broader definition of the UGRR embraced by the NTF, I understand the concerns of those who prefer the more strongly defined, narrow-focus approach. I believe both groups have much to be gained by supporting the NPS NTF.

However, the charges that the NTF is commercializing the UGRR by embracing a broader approach is completely without merit. If you want to see rampant commercialization, look at the claims of any number of bed and breakfast establishments across the northeast. They are using the traditional definition without any research or understanding of history.

I believe that witholding support from the NTF program is akin to cutting off your nose to spite your face. The folks there are truly working hard to make it work.
