Re: TO ALL CONCERNED -- NPS-UGRR-NTF & NURFC

Before I throw my support behind them, I am afraid I have to have some evidence that their organization is on a firmer foundation. By this I mean that they are better organized. It takes more than money to get things done. The Freedom Center is a good example that money does not necessarily insure the story will be told..

Just my two cents.

Hi Bev,

I know of your past efforts in researching, documenting and trying to perserve the history of the UGRR and the folks who were living during that time and making that history.

I also know of your 'lobbying' efforts in getting the legislation approved and passed. Because of the effort of you and others the National Underground Railroad to Freedom Act became a reality.

Adding my penny to your two cents I believe this discussion is a good one. One reason it is good....it seems to clearing the air between several entities which should not be competing, but collaborating.

There appears to be a disconnect about who is doing what and how they are funded. Perhaps designating the museum in Cincinnati as the "Freedom Center" has a silver lining. It is now out in the open as to not being what it was/is billed as......whatever that is/was I'll leave to individual interpetations.

Money alone, as you point out does not ensure a satisfactory product, but I believe the NPS-UGRR-NTF program deserves the help and attention of US grass roots UGRR enthusiasts. It, (the program) hopefully, may now come out from under the shadow of the 'Freedom Center' now that more clear mission statements and funding sources for both are being revealed.

Thanks for your input and thanks for listening to mine. :)

Your Friend,

Art Thomas

p.s. We are still friends, aren't we? :)
