UGRR Eaton Indiana - Cox family?
I am trying to find information about some family members who ran an underground railroad station in or near Eaton, Delaware County, Indiana. This station is said to have been on the Robert Long farm, and the Longs were (are) relatives of my branch of the Cox family.
The Underground Railroad Station at the Robert Long farm is mentioned in "A History of Eaton, 1854-1954" by Mrs.Robert Dorton. This history can be found on the internet. Also, it is my understanding that an article about this underground railroad station ran in "The Muncie Star" in the 1960's. I would love to find a copy of that article.
Of course, I am very proud that a branch of my family was involved in this great cause, and I hope that somebody can help me learn more about it.
I was born in Muncie, Indiana in 1930, and then moved, with my parents, to Ohio in 1937 and grew up mostly in Sandusky on Lake Erie. I do recall that in the late 1940's or early 50's, on a trip to Muncie, my father took my mother and me on a visit to his cousin Robert Long. From what I have learned in Mrs. Dorton's history, I believe this must have been the Robert Long who fought in the Spanish-American war. He lived somewhere in the country near Muncie.
Thanks to anyone who can provide me with some information.
