HISTORY AS A "SUCCESS MOTIVATOR"
INSPIRING TALES FROM THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD, an innovative new
motivational history curriculum developed by historical
researcher/storyteller, Linda Cousins, is now available as an online
course and is, to date, currently offered globally by 448 colleges and institutions from California to Canada, the University of Hawaii to Harvard. The course personalizes history by not only providing one with an intimate view into the lives of twelve great Underground Railroad contributors, but also guides one to use such lives and accomplishments as ersonal "mentors' and success motivators."
The work is targeted to history buffs, from teens to seniors, who enjoy eeing history "come alive", and who can derive inspiration from the courage and contributions of those ancestors from the past as well as present-day contributors. The course revolves around the life triumphs and challenges of twelve gently powerful contributors, ranging from Mother Harriet Ross Tubman Davis to Madison Washington, who masterminded a freedom journey all the way to Nassau, Bahamas,
"An intentionally innovative and inspirational history course", INSPIRING TALES FROM THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD delves deeply into the adventurous lives, personalities, challenges and spiritual triumphs of Underground Railroad contributors, enabling enrollees to immerse themselves in following the ancestral activities and achievements clearly left as a legacy--a roadmap to success and fulfillment by such indefatigable, enterprising sheroes and heroes. Supplementary materials include recommended readings, knowledge-development activities, and specialized websites related to the contributors covered, including the Native American contribution and collaboration with the African ancestral freedom bids.
Inspiring Tales from the Underground Railroad was created and developed by New York City educator/cultural promoter, Linda Cousins, an internationally published writer, historical researcher, and storyteller. Cousins is the playwright of the award-winning, storytelling musical, MAMA MOSES' SPIRIT - Queen Mother of Freedom, based on the life of Harriet Ross Tubman Davis www.ancestraltravels.com ). She conceived and coordinated the posthumous Enstoolment in 2000, (a sacred African honoring ritual), of Harriet Tubman Davis as a queen mother of Ghana, the first known Underground Railroad contributor to be so honored.
In discussing Inspiring Tales from the Underground Railroad, Cousins
relates, "From the vantage point of our current place in history, with both its triumphs and stressful challenges, students can be motivated to persevere and move steadfastly toward success attainment by learning how great contributors dealt with both heart-rending challenges and soul-elevating victories during an equally critical period of African diaspora history, the Underground Railroad days. Continuous learning about and deriving inspiration from these lives is not a one-month project, but a year-round, life-long adventure."
Although Inspiring Tales... is geared to multicultural learners across the globe, Cousins envisions seeing numerous persons of color as well as students of historically Black colleges availing themselves of this "motivational historical education." "These are our ancestral mentors," she states. "They still have much wisdom and guidance to impart!" Detailed information on this online course can be found at: Click here: ed2go:
