I am working on a NPS status project in Blairsville PA and am looking for any information on a man named Richard Newman who was living freely in Blairsville in 1858 and had escaped enslavement five years earlier. He was aided by the townspeople of Blairsville when slave catchers apprehended him and he escaped. He had lived with African American UGRR conductor Lewis Johnson. Any information is appreciated. Five Richard Newman's fought with the US colored troops in the CW.
