Re: Redman UGRR Operators - ADAMS line

Nicole,

I don't know that Oliver Keener is a brother to Sarah who married George Washington Adams - Some say they are both children of Peter Keener and Susan Stewart but I believe the source is the Horn Papers which is very questionable in its accuracy. In 1850 Washington and Sarah Adams have Lindsey Keener living in their household.

You do know that Oliver Keener was the first husband of Cynthia Ellen Wilson Redman? Oliver is buried at McVay Cemetery in Greene Co. PA next to Cynthia's sister Malinda Wilson Adams Keener. Malinda's first husband was William H. Adams. She married Joseph Keener 2nd.

Let me try to dig out the hard copy of the probate record for Abraham. I can't do that tonight but will see if I can get to it later in the week. The record is on file at the Orphan's Court of Greene County PA at the courthouse in Waynesburg. I visited there more than 20 years ago and this was one of the records on the list I left for the clerk to copy and mail to me. I don't have the date until I pull out the hard copy but it was much later as I recall than the date of Abraham's death. From memory, he died 1832, but the estate was not settled for many years.

Here is the link to much of what I know about Abraham http://home.comcast.net/~janslater/abemdline.html

You wrote and I agree: Mrs. Susannah RIFFLE would have to be the child of an heir NOT listed

You wrote: Might you know when Abraham ADAMS married ?

I don't even know for certain when Abraham arrived in PA. He was born in Maryland - place unknown to me.

You Wrote:Also can you tell me which census dates & locations
you have for Abraham ADAMS ?

It is possible that this Abraham Adams is the same as the Abraham in Greene Co. PA in 1810 even though he was listed as white - it was not unusual for the ADAMS family in Greene Co. to be listed as white one year and colored or mulatto the next census. My 2 GGgrandfathers Jonathan K. & William H. Adams were always listed as mulatto in the census but served in white Civil War units. William died at the Wilderness but Jonathan is once again listed as mulatto in the census in 1870 in Greene Co. PA. Interstingly, Jonathan deserted the Army after the Wilderness and is found in Isabella County MI in 1866 when he sold property in Greene Co. PA. Some of the Leonard family (UGRR) landed in Isabella Co. MI as well.

1810 Jefferson Township Greene Co. PA
1 free white male 26-44, 1 free white female 16-25

I believe that this is Abraham Adams father to Washington, John, Eli and Mariah in 1820 & 1830

1820 Center Township Greene Co. PA
3 males under 14, 1 male 45 & up, 1 female under 16 and 1 female 45 & up all free persons of color

I don't have Abraham in 1830

There is a younger Abraham in Greene County PA - Free Person of Color whom I believe is the Abraham that moved to Muskingum Co. OH about the time they lost the right to vote.

Here is a link to some of what I know about Abraham Adams the younger

I have not found the connection between the Riffle's of WV and Henry.
