Re: Wilbur Siebert's work #2
In Response To: Re: Wilbur Siebert's work ()

Hello Michael,

It just dawned on me, one of those duh moments.

Your Day ancestor's were involved with the UGRR in Jefferson Twp., Logan Co., OH. This is located on the route that went from Urbana in Champaign County to Findlay in Hancock County. It went something like Urbana (Champaign), Bellefontaine (Logan), Kenton (Hardin), Findlay (Hancock).

These operators/conductors identified as AF-AM had to have known and worked with each other along this strectch of the UGRR. Going from south (Urbana) north (Findlay) each town is no more than 15-20 miles from the next. I know there were church connections (documented) between the A.M.E. church's in these towns during the period of UGRR operations. And also for example, an AF-AM Newspaper the "Palladium of Liberty" from 1843-1845 was circulated in this area by men who were later identified by Siebert as UGRR conductors, including our ancestors.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to document those connections?

Oh BTW, the Ohio Historical Society's Website has several additional references to the works of Wilbur H. Siebert. A search on Siebert should find them.
