Re: Changes At Family Search
In Response To: Changes At Family Search
() Yeah, does look like Ancestry, I'm loving the beta site BETTA than I like the pilot site Another reason for the change, or at least for the New site, from the Help Center on the Beta site, are JAWS users (Jobs Access With Speech), those who are blind but are doing research. A blind patron using JAWS (Job Access With Speech) needs instructions on how to access the historical records from FamilySearch indexing and trees from the Ancestral File and Pedigree Resource File.
Access to these records provides blind patrons a wealth of information not previously available to them and allows them to do their own research. Of course, they cannot view the associated images, but a lot of information is present in the ASCII text. Here's another explanation from the bottom of the page: Historical records are also present on the Pilot FamilySearch site (http://pilot.familysearch.org). However, Adobe Flash Player is used on this site. Because of incompatibilities between Adobe Flash Player, the Pilot site, and JAWS, it is difficult to do searches and view results on this site using JAWS. Thus, searches for historical records need to be done on the beta FamilySearch site. So it looks like it's all good, no drastic change that will effect/affect Everyone and limit your searching/researching Messages In This Thread
