I have both a paper file and a digital file.
With the paper file, everything is organized in file folders that are labeled. I have three plastic bins that I got from Office Max that I store them in. They have lids and can be carried, so they are pretty easy to work with. Although, I am running out of space in these.
With my digital file, I have two external hard drives that I use. One is a back up of the other one (it's a Terabyte drive) and the other is a 250GB drive. My files are kept in a pretty logical order - Photo Archive (Divided down into line of the family and the pictures are filed accordingly); Video Archive; Census Records; Maps; Reunion Files, etc.
I always try to keep things organized in a way that if someone else was picking up my work at some point, they could find things pretty easily.
I think the organization comes from working in jobs where I had to be highly organized to keep up.
