U know stuff pop into your head and u need to talk about it cause the ancestors will not let u rest until u tell somebody and I mean MANY somebodies...
The 1890 census... I always wondered WHY that particular census was burned. As I got better at this researching, everytime I would get close to some answers--that 1890 Brickwall would loom up. Some states happen to take a County Census between 1880-1900. Thankfully my county of interest Johnston SC did so and I am able to Add new names, birth years as well as death years to my tree. Some I guestimated really close to being accurate. Because I am a Society member, the Society Editor, Tonya Browder, for Edgefield SC has been very very good at publishing information in the Quill Newsletter for Society members. I would never know the information that she places in it. I would need to visit Edgefield and that is not a trip I can afford to take.
Now back to the census. I would like to know Countie names in WHAT STATES had Court House Burnings. Have u been to a ONSITE Research at a Court House only to find the records started after dated between 1880-1900?
It makes me very curious why the place where records that would prove ownership of property and marriages would get destroyed sometimes 2 times. Was there a cover up. Usually a person who needs to prove they are rich WILL have backup copies, in another SAFE PLACE. U THINK? It would surely help us to trace our family.
So please can you answer the Questions here
1. What State, the County Name and the year/s it burned
2. Did this happen in just the south?
3. Were u able to find duplicate records of some kind for your people in another state/county. What document?
