[SC] Todays Newspapers

8) I have posted a similar topic like this on the newspaper FORUM, but I would like to post a update there. On my RootsMagic program, it will give a seperate list of city and county where I have found family. I had been asking people how to find out what towns would receive what named newspaper. I keep forgetting to ask our local library first, but that's where I actually remembered to start. Then I CALLED the SC Archives and spoke to a Human and he referred me to the SC PRESS ASSOCIATION-scpress. BINGO! This page had a listing of all daily and weekly newspapers. Well I CALLED the first one on the list, Abbeville weekly, because there was no email address. The lady told me to send a email and in the subj. line address it to LETTER TO THE EDITOR. In the body explain what I would like to have posted, give my name, address and phone so they can contact me. THEN in the body of the email write a short story.
Since I post a lot of full names on afrigeneas.com and I know it will come up if you google them, I basically typed in the full names of ALL of the people from one family group I am searching for. This cuts down on the story being edited too much.
Little towns get their newspapers from circulation of a larger diverse paper. As many as 6 towns can get the same paper, with some information included about their community added. Descendants of our families may have moved anywhere in SC OR there may be friends who know where they have moved. People will have something new to discuss. I plan on subscribing to one of these newspapers, so I can get an idea of just what is published, for 1 year. This way I can monitor if my news item has been used...for free. If I have to pay, I will do so one time. If you want to include a picture, you are paying for advertisement. But to me it is worth it to connect the dots. Remember BLACK HISTORY MONTH is coming up and this is a fantastic way of getting your family history out there.
