AfriGeneas States Research Forum
[SC] Carolina Herald and Newsletter
I have often suggested that researchers join the Genealogy society in the state or city where your ancestors once lived. I have done so as well as am a member of the AAHGS-DC. The DC society is where I started mainly because the members were from every state. These members and the workshops this society sponsors have gotten me so far in research. One member gave me information as to exactly who to contact in SC to find out about my people. From this networking I have joined the OLDEDGS-AAHGS and with the payment get membership and newsletters from the state society. I personally have sent stories about my research for publication in THE HOMEPLACE for information of family in Johnston SC and the Herald. So many times I read stories about other ethnic families and not enough about my own. I would like to suggest to SC researchers join a SC society. Email a copy to the editor, Judy Norris Long at JudyL@NCTV.com. You must be a member in order to get the story included in a newsletter booklet. She is requesting stories for publication in the newsletter. Don't forget to add an old picture from your collection to make it more interesting. We NEED TO BE THE GRIOTS OF OUR STORIES. As one forum administrator so wisely said-'don't eat the same meal ALL of the time. Try tasting something else'. Spread the word. These newsletters go all over the US and maybe foreign. These newsletters are also how I find out about books available that are not in Archives and upcoming conferences. When my book closet gets too full I donate, books, to my genealogy library in my city. It's a tax donation and someone else may need some help. Each one Help someone.
