() You can view SC Death Indexes from 1915 to 1960 -- for free -- at the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control's link below. (You'll have to install a browser plug-in that's harmless.) Tip: If unable to locate a desired given name and county after finding the surname, try clicking the page arrow to the end of the alphabet of the given name you're seeking, and you'll probably see the given-name listing start over with additional names. It's not that blacks are listed last (in the race column, 3 means white, 4 means non-white, and both are listed next to each other throughout), so I don't know why it's that way.
