Cemeteries:

1921 -25 Laurel Grove is the only black cemetery listed. This maybe because it is city controlled, the others are private.
The first burial ground for black's(1763), was laid out in line with the(Colonial Park) cemetery(white).
Laurel Grove(South) was open in 1852, fifteen acres were set aside for the burial of " free people of color and slaves."
Today Laurel Grove is divided by I-16 37th St. exit, which also divide the North and South portions of the cemetery. White on the North side and Black on the South side. Even in death we couldn't be together.

The funeral directors with the (*) are no longer in business. Your Powell & Co. being one of them. Unless someone bought them out and kept there records. I don't where those records would be.
