I have some Spence's over in Coosa County which is not too far away. My oldest is Joseph Spence b. 1852.

Here's what I see.

I don't see any matches to black male Spences, 4 years later in the 1870 census. It wouldn't surprise me if the older person had died but I did not see a match for the younger guy either. You should probly also check the 1880 census.
