Below are the Suggested Guidelines for writing your family history for the Cleveland County Heritage Book...they are suggestions only; you may write in any style or form that you wish. The Historical Society will meet on June 10, 2004, at the Cleveland County Library at 6:00 p.m. We are going to continue the program from the May meeting which was a workshop to help people with their family history for the Heritage Book and to answer any questions anyone may have concerning their genealogy. Thanks,
Suggested Guidelines for Writing Your Article
Next, list their parents or ancestral lineage as far back as you can and tell the state or country from which they emigrated. Tell where they 1st settled and other places they may have lived. If known, list the dates of birth, marriage, death, or military records, wars served in, church affiliation, or other social or political accomplishements. Relate short interesting stories about your ancestor(s) or give family highlights. List children of your ancestor, their spouses and children and any relevant information as space permits. If you are out of space, you might wish to write a separate article for any or all of the children. IMPORTANT: The CCHGS suggests that you get permission from living persons (especially if they were born after the 1930 census was taken) before you submit their names and/or birthdates for publication. The CCHGS will only edit for grammar and punctuation; we cannot be responsible for the content or its accuracy. You may choose to include ancestral lineage only with no additional stories or you may choose to submit only stories or highlights of your ancestor's life. Use paragraph or manuscript form; you may list information, but no family history outlines. Please give your name and address as the submitter. This will be published at the end of your article in case another researcher wants to contact you for additional information. Length of Article If your ancestor was in the area that became Cleveland County before 1873, your article may contain up to 3000 words. If they came after 1873, please limit it to about 2000 words. If there are circumstances where you may need additional space, please contact one of the persons listed at the bottom of page. Photographs You may submit one clear, black and white photograph for each article. Additional photographs may be submitted which may be used if space permits. If you send more than one, number them in order to be used. Each photo must have the names of the persons in the photo or a caption. The names or caption should be written on a separate sheet of paper and numbered to correspond with the photographs. IMPORTANT: Have copies made of your original photographs and submit these copies. We will NOT return photographs. They may be archived in the genealogy room of the Cleveland County Library or possibly used in a pictorial history of the county to be published at a later date. Deadline for submission: October 31, 2004 Where to Mail: Annette Rawls: jabr3640@tds.net
